Student athletes from elementary, secondary and SPED, who won medals in the 2017 Southern Tagalog CALABARZON Athletic Association (STCAA) were recognized by the Antipolo City Government at their flag ceremony last Monday, September 4, 2017.

The city bagged a total of 130 medals – including 46 gold, 41 silver and 43 bronze – in different sports like Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Arnis, Taekwondo, Futsal, Baseball, Table Tennis, Wusku and Athletics.

The 2017 STCAAA meet was held last Febuary 13-19, 2017 at the Laguna Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz, Laguna and served as the qualifier for the 2017 Palarong Pambansa.

Celso Bagunu, Ferdie Fausto, Reynaldo Sancio and John Christopher Leis – baseball coaches of the Antipolo Softball Tournament – were also recognized at the flag ceremony for winning the bronze medal (3rd place) in the 35th Boys Nankyu Baseball Championship last July 26-August 3, 2017 held in Tokyo, Japan.

“Isang karangalan po para sa Pamahalaang Antipolo na maiuwi ng mga atletang Antipoleno ang 3rd place,” said Masters of the Ceremony Sunshine Madoro of the Public Information Office.

The winners received a total of P296,000 worth of cash incentives for the dedication and hard work they have given to the city of Antipolo.

Twenty school divisions, led by defending overall champion Rizal Province, participated in the past STCAA held at the Laguna Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Over 6,000 student-athletes competed in 25 events with the winners not just winning medals but also advancing to the Palarong Pambansa held in Antique last April 23 to 30, 2017.
